September 2026 Artifact of the Month: Boy Scout Uniform
Our September Artifact of the Month is a special new addition to the McQuarrie Memorial Museum's collection—an Eagle Scout uniform worn by George Thomas Thompson, an early leader in the Scouting movement in St. George.

Born in St. George in 1883, George married Martha Ann Baker in 1907. He built their family home at the corner of Tabernacle Street and 3rd East.
George was an early leader in the Scouting movement in the St. George area and continued his involvement as a troop leader for several years.
His Scouts also helped build the first bridge on the Sugar Loaf, connecting their service to a familiar St. George landmark.
Scouting became a family tradition. George's sons, Heber, Horace, and Paul, along with his grandson Edward, all earned the rank of Eagle Scout.
George's granddaughter, Karen Sue Nicks, donated this treasured uniform to the Museum, helping preserve an important piece of local and family history for future generations.
See the uniform on display in the green cabinet near the stairs in Room 8.
Admission to the McQuarrie Memorial Museum is free!
