🪦 Honoring Mayor Francis L. Daggett: A Legacy Remembered

Updated: Jul 25

The McQuarrie Memorial Museum is proud to have played a key role in researching and preserving the legacy of Francis L. Daggett, an early St. George pioneer and civic leader. After more than a century, a headstone has finally been placed to honor this remarkable man at the St. George City Cemetery.

Francis L. Daggett served his community in numerous roles—probate judge, county clerk and recorder, county attorney, county commissioner, fair president, and mayor of St. George, among others. Described as faithful, quiet, and a man of high character, he earned the respect and friendship of many in his lifetime.

Thanks to a collaborative effort, a custom headstone has now been installed. The museum contributed vital historical research, while many others made the memorial possible, including:

  • Hal and Suezun Hilburn (Daggett’s descendants)

  • Kenworthy Signs

  • Washington County Fair

  • Don Lyman

  • Washington County Historical Society
